Loose Talk Podcast: Episode 142 - The Car Girlfriend Theory

This episode has the gang canvassing theories like proponents of jurisprudential schools of thought.
For Apple listeners, please click HERE to listen to the latest episode of Loose Talk Podcast.
This episode is one for the realists who don’t take chances with situations that might end up with them cheating. The idea of cheating is a systematic thing — the sex itself is the result of a cumulative chain of actions.
The car girlfriend theory
Off the reading of fan mails and a Loose Talk Giant seeking advise for a friend whose girlfriend now rides a guy's car to work, Steve Dede Canada (SDC) shares his theory on why a car might be an aphrodisiac as it promotes unnecessary closeness between opposite sexes. He thinks that if you don’t want that cheating smoke, don’t get in a car for regular drives with people of the opposite sex.
In truth, it seems harsh, but from ‘I trust my partner’ comes, ‘I used to trust you.’ You cannot be in a car with someone and not chat about your respective lives.
Steve thinks that it's better when you don't tread that path.

How Nigerian computer technician was forced into prostitution in Italy

You might know her today as a "hero" of the US Department of State Trafficking in Persons, but once she kept refusing the offer to join prostitution, but in the end, she had no choice.
Blessing Okoedion had met a woman named Alice at her church. Alice told her she was going to be a computer technician in Italy, so she left Nigeria, in search of greener pastures.
As with a lot of Nigerians, craving the good life in western colonies, from whence they could declare their love from Nigeria, Blessing was scammed like some of our girls currently in South Africa.
Though most Nigerian millennials want to travel, we need to ask ourselves a question; is slavery or indentured servitude really worth it like our girl are being treated in Saudi Arabia?
Before the days of Nollywood classic, Glamour Girls, Italy was a popular centre for exploiting Nigerian women in trafficking and prostitution. Popular accounts are vividly written across the internet, but this one is different; she is a survivor and an activist who only spent four days in captivity.
She tried to humanize her sexual encounters and make her customers interested in her for anything more than her body, but she soon realized she was just a piece of meat, another body to be pummeled for sexual satisfaction and nothing more. To her, that was not good enough, so she left after just four days.

Blessing Okoedion
Her name is Blessing Okoedion and she told Quartz’s Barbie Latza Nadeau her story; taken from Nigerian under the pretext of being a computer technician, but forced into prostitution in the heart of Italy, bound to pay debts to a mob, or risk the consequence of a gruesome death.
It’s even worse when you consider how jubilant Nigerian girls still troop into Italy unaware of the perils of their supposed new homes, where even the Nigerian embassy is allegedly complicit in the knowledge of the dark realities for young female Nigerian immigrants.
On her attempts to investigate the complicit governmental bodies, Nadeau says, “My own attempts to interview someone at the Nigerian embassy about the 11,000 women who arrived in Italy in 2016 were met with ambivalence. That question, they said, had to be answered in Nigeria at the Italian consulate.
“But when I reached the Italian consulate, they referred me to the Nigerian interior ministry. When I reached them, they referred me again to the Italian consulate, which sent me back to the Nigerian embassy in Rome.”
Blessing in Italy
When Blessing Okoedion got to Italy, she was introduced to a woman named, Madam Faith. She was to discover that Madam Faith was a ‘Madame,’ running a closed, high-risk prostitution ring, mirroring a high stakes poker game where lives could easily get lost in the turf wars with Ukranian, Romanian or Russian prostitution organizations and the ever-vigilant Italian syndicates.
There was also the Police to contend with; they either deport you back to this country you tried so hard to leave or they blackmail you, having free sex with you while they take all your money, threatening you with the prospect deportation, nobody wants that.
Equally, nobody wants to be robbed by low-life Italian criminals and wannabe men of the underworld either.
Everything was for sale, even sidewalks
After Blessing knew Madam Faith, she was given a pay-as-you-go cell phone with a meagre amount on it to make outgoing calls.
She was riddled with the ‘riot act’ of heightened cost of living on fronts like, €150 ($186) a month on sidewalk space directly to Nigerian gangs and then to Neapolitan Camorra crime syndicate; €200 ($248) a month for her room, €250 ($310) a month for utilities, €50 a week for food and during the winter, she would pay €20 a week for heating.
ALSO READ: How a good Samaritan took a family from extreme poverty and homelessness to US luxury
Food, phone bill, and rent were extra expenses after those. She was fully into the prostitution she vehemently rejected when she first arrived in Italy.
Madam Faith gave her a lecture on Police cars and how to operate, how to run and when to run; she was to reject nobody and charge €20 ($24) a person, though some might only pay €10 or €15. For some other police officers, she had to go free because of cheap favors.
The street rules
Madam Faith told Blessing to;
1.) Hide her money in her boot or workers from other prostitution rings would pretend to be clients and try to steal it from her.
2.) If there was more than one person in a car, be careful. Although not necessarily refuse them because she could charge per person.
3.) Never be friends with the Russian, Ukrainian, and Romanian women who worked on the perimeter of the Nigerian women’s area.
4.) Let Madam Faith know if she ever saw one on her section of sidewalk.
5.) If you are scared, carry a knife or be ready to defend yourself with a shard of glass.
6.) Clients had to pay €50 ($62) in advance if Blessing wanted to bring them to the connection house she would be living in.
Blessing’s escape
After Blessing’s fourth day, realizing that she was just another piece of sex-hungry men, she was made up to find a lasting solution. She also couldn’t save money as her Madam would yank all the money out of her purse the minute she gets into the connection house.
On her second day of work, she tried to find a Police station and instead found an educated Nigerian man like her who was caught in drug trafficking. He was also afraid of being seen by a gang member or arrested, so he told her about the Police station in English.
On what happened next, Quartz reports, “The next morning, she got to the station at 9 am and there was an English-speaking officer there. She signed a complaint against Alice, Madam Faith, and her husband, and the police took her to Casa Ruth, a home run by Catholic nuns for migrant women forced into sexual slavery. She was off the street just four days after she arrived.”
The rest, as they say, is history. She broke free of what Nigerian trafficking victims are wary of and call the “juju curse.” Before leaving Nigeria, victims are taken to witch doctors who place a curse on them, conditioned upon them trying to run or break their Madam’s trust.
Author, progressive and activist Blessing
Alongside Anna Pozzi, Blessing published her autobiography titled the “Courage of Freedom” in 2017. She is also a cultural mediator for illegal immigrants who arrive in Italy by boat. While neither Madam Faith nor Alice was ever arrested, she knows she has a price on her head.
“Women die out there all the time. They just get rid of the bodies and no one looks back. There is no one there to protect the women, and the longer they stay, the more fear sets into their bones.” She tells Quartz.
As Blessing continues to help young arrivals at Casa Ruth, Sister Rita says, “She is a unique gem. She is very special and she will be the one to make a difference in this horrible trade if she is given the right opportunity.”
Back home to Nigeria to sensitize
Determined to effect a change since the powers were complicit, Blessing visited her village with journalist, Pozzi and the Catholic Church’s anti-trafficking group Slaves No More, run by Sister Eugenia Bonetti in Rome.
Sadly, probably out of fear of being stigmatized, Blessing couldn’t speak of her dark, torrid time with gangs in her village, she only told her sisters, not even her parents who thought she had been working as a computer technician all these time.
Blessing then tells Nadreau that with the substandard life she has seen again, she understood why most girls would give an arm and a leg to go to their idea of Europe, only to be sold into modern slavery.
Even worse, her sister called her up after she had returned to Italy that a British family wanted to hire her in England. Blessing told her, “There is no job as a babysitter. There is only one kind of work in Europe for Nigerian women.”
That job is prostitution.

Nigerian man resigns as labour councillor in UK over drugs supply charges

Osamor was sentenced to a two-year community order and 20 days rehabilitation on Friday, October 26, 2018.
A Nigerian Labour Councillor in the United Kingdom, Ishmael Osamor has reportedly resigned his position caught with a large amount of drugs at a music festival.
According to the BBC, the 29-yr-old Nigerian who had already left his cabinet post pleaded guilty to having £2,500-worth of drugs, at last year's Bestival event in Dorset.
Osamor, who is a son of Shadow International Development Secretary, Kate Osamor, was reportedly caught with ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine and cannabis at the festival in August 2017, nine months before he was elected as a councillor, BBC reports.
Following his arraignment, Osamor was sentenced to a two-year community order and 20 days rehabilitation on Friday, October 26, 2018.
While announcing his resignation, the 29-yr-old Nigerian in a statement to the council's chief executive said: "It is with great regret that I am offering this as formal notice of my resignation as councillor, effective immediately.
"I would like to take the opportunity to apologise to the council, as I have to my ward colleagues and residents, for the unwelcome attention my case has brought to Haringey."
BBC also reports that Osamor resigned at a meeting of the council's Labour group earlier following calls for him to quit.
Life In Naija: Meet the corporate keke driver who makes N8,000 per day

Samuel Ogundare is a keke driver unlike others. He dresses like a banker and has drives a very clean keke. Here is his story.
Lagos, the swelling metropolis of approximately 20 million people is notorious for its poor transportation network.
To get from point A to B, Lagosians, who don’t have cars or possess the financial means to take cabs, use motorcycles (known as okadas), commercial buses (known as danfos) or tricycles (known as Keke NAPEP or Keke Marwa) to get around.
While these modes of transportation differ, they have one thing in common- rough and unpolished drivers that look straight out of a Terror Muda comic strip from Vanguard's back page.
The chances of seeing a gentlemanly driver on the streets of Lagos is the same as finding a needle in a haystack. It is difficult but not impossible.
Mr Samuel Ogundare is that needle in the haystack. Ogundare is not your average Lagos tricycle driver. Here is his story.
Why is he different?
For one, his dress code is more suited for a GQ photoshoot than driving on the rough roads of Lagos.
When Pulse met him in Shitta, Surulere, he was wearing a white shirt, black blazer, bow tie and a pair of suede wingtip shoes.
Samuel Ogundare is a 5'6 man, with a clean shave, a great haircut and a certain swagger that you rarely see with commercial transporters.
His keke is not the average dirty tricycle. It has a sound and visual system. It also has brown leather seats, a hand towel and specially tailored carpets in the right areas with a phone camera. It doesn't stop there. His Keke also has a ceiling fan.
Ogundare is also present on social media. He has Instagram, Facebook and Twitter account for his one-of-a-kind keke.
His sharp sense of style and packaging was the subject of attraction on Twitter recently. It’s not every day you see a keke driver dressed like an investment banker with a posh Keke.
Ogundare’s business strategy has garnered his names like "corporate guy" and "Kowope," on the streets of Surulere.
"I know people look down on Keke drivers and think they don't know anything. This is what I do, and if I don't stand out, and act like everyone else, how will anyone take me seriously?"
"I like what I do and I enjoy it. I don't like to think anyone is better than me." he continues.
When I asked whether it was a marketing tactic, he says, "Yes and no. This is me being who I am. I like dressing well. But yes, it is also so people look at me differently."
Financial reward
Ogundare has two kekes and each one costs N650,000.
How much does he make in a day?
"Usually, it's about N5,000 but on the good days, I make N7,000, N8, 000," he says.
"I come out at 9 (am) and I work till 2-3 (pm) and go pick the children assigned to me from school. I close at 5:30 am every day” he further says.
His beginnings
"I completed my Secondary School exams in 2013 - that's five years ago. My older brother, also a Keke driver asked me to come to Lagos” he tells Pulse.
He continues, "When I arrived, I got a Keke on hire-purchase. I worked with it for four years and saved up each day."
God as his father
One easily perceivable thing in all our conversations was, "God". So I asked him whether he was a Christian.
It turns out he is an instrumentalist and as we later discussed in camera, his "Father in the lord," helped him realise how he could stand out of the crowd.
He plays the talking drum and goes to church every other day. His church connects have also helped his growing popularity around the Surulere, Ojuelegba area.
It underlines the power of referrals. When trust is built, business tends to work itself as someone will talk to another who needs a solution you can provide.
That's why Ogundare transports over five children a day across Surulere. Their parents have complete trust in him.
Admirers and growing popularity
Being a guy with a growing reputation, admirers are bound to come. He says passively as if it meant nothing that, "I just want to make my money and go but I like them, it means they appreciate what I do."
He continues, "I just try to stay humble, but those people have helped me a lot with social media posts and other things."
On women, he says, "I have no girlfriend, but I will when the time is right."
Would he take another job?
Interestingly, Ogundare says no. He says he loves his job and wouldn't change it for a thing. Instead, he says he would invest heavily in this business and watch it all yield results.
He's a sensation and people are taking notice fast. Politicians are also coming in. Ogundare has an employee that drives his second keke. His name is John Kelechi who he hired earlier in the year.
His end goal
Ogundare plans to go back to school for a degree in Business Administration.

Stop looking for a relationship if your buttocks is stinking, Pastor rebukes women

A pastor revealed that a lot of women with smelly buttocks are walking about town. He also cautioned them to clean up properly.
Personal hygiene is a must irrespective of you who are or where you find yourself. And that is why this pastor has chosen to admonish women who walk around with smelly arses.
This viral video has us perplexed as we cannot fathom what should have aggravated the man of God to deliver such a sermon during church service. He says and I quote, “… a lot of women walk about with ‘stinking’ buttocks looking for relationships and getting married with ‘stinking’ buttocks.”

He says that such women should properly clean themselves and take care of their bum. Well, I think his advice works both ways. Everyone needs to practice personal hygiene for we do not live in a vacuum.

3 things to know about the Elizabeth Ogbaje Ochanya case

The 13-year old recently passed away and the world still doesn't know much about her.
Nigeria sits on the edge of her seat for any positive news on #JusticeForOchanya, the social media hashtag created to demand justice for the late Elizabeth Ogbaje Ochanya which has taken centre stage.
Who is Elizabeth Ogbaje Ochanya?
She is the alleged 13-year-old victim of a 5-year rape by her uncle, 52-year old Andrew Ogbuja, a lecturer in the Department of Catering and Hotel Management of the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, and his son, Victor Ogbuja.
Soon after a battle with a few ailments reportedly originating from being regularly drugged, abused, molested and raped both anally and vaginally by father and son, she died of Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) and other health complications at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
As the battle for justice continues, here are 3 things to know about the late Elizabeth Ogbaje Ochanya;
1.) She was a JSS2 (Not JSS1) Student of the Federal Government Girls’ College, Gboko
After Ochanya came to live with the Ogbujas in 2013, as an 8-year old after her mother died, she had to attend school. Thus, after passing primary school, the Ogbujas enrolled her at the Federal Government Girls College, Gboko.
At the time of her death, she was a student JSS2 student in the second year of secondary school. Upon her death, her school’s alumni joined in seeking justice in her memory.
Her actual class can be confirmed in the statement released by her school’s alumni upon an autopsy conducted into her death. It reads, “We bring to your attention the incident of the death of 13-year old Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje; a JS2 student of Federal Government Girls’ College Gboko in Benue State. ”

2.) A street has been named after her
In the days following the series of protests, Laila’s News reports that a street has since been named after the young Elizabeth Ogbanje Ochanya in Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State.
No amount of activism will bring her back, sadly. But her memory could be used to create a new standard for the many other girls going through what she went through for five years.
For one, she has inspired the Director — General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, (NAPTIP), Dame Julie Okah to appeal to other girls going through same to come out and talk.
3.) Mrs. Felicia Ogbuja is actually her cousin, not her aunt
When Ochanya’s mom reportedly died in 2013, she came to live with the Ogbujas. Felicia is her mother’s cousin, and thereby, she is Felicia’s first cousin once removed, not her aunt.
But as regards the Nigerian attitude to respect, Felicia is old enough to be her mother. She will be called ‘Mummy’ or ‘Aunty,’ never, ‘cousin.’

Four things to know about Elizabeth Ogbanje Ochanya

The 13-year old recently passed away and the world still doesn't know much about her.
Rape is a terrible offence and it will not be tolerated. Sexual abuse of minors should even be treated with greater seriousness.
That is why the whole of Nigeria sits on their edge of her seat as any positive news on #JusticeForOchanya, the social media hashtag created to demand justice for the late Elizabeth Ogbanje Ochanya takes centre stage.
Who is Elizabeth Ogbanje Ochanya?
She is the 13-year-old victim of a 5-year rape by her uncle, 52-year old Andrew Ogbuja, a Lecturer in the Department of Catering and Hotel Management of the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, and his son, Victor Ogbuja.
Soon after a battle with a few ailments originating from being regularly drugged, abused, molested and raped both anally and vaginally by father and son, she died of Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) and other health complications at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
Here are five things to know about the teenage girl, the subject of intense social media activism across Nigeria;

2.) Mrs. Felician Ogbuja is actually her cousin, not her aunt
We all know the Nigerian setting with respect.
3.) A street has been named after her
In the days following the series of strike actions across Nigerian cities by people of all ages, colours, and genders, Laila’s News reported that a street has since been named after the young Elizabeth Ogbanje Ochanya in Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State.
In the same vein, she deserves immortality.
4.) She is soft-spoken and articulate
While she might be intellectually imperfect, a video of her interview with African Independent Television (AIT) where she narrated her sad ordeal has been making the rounds.
In the video, she could be seen to narrate her ordeal in good tenses, with the confidence to face a camera. Most 13-year old Nigerians could not have done that.

5-year-old twin die in fire after mum left them to visit lover

The tragic incident occurred in Calabar, Cross River state on 22nd October 2018.
A set of twins aged five years old have been killed in a fire after their mother left them home alone to visit her boyfriend.
The tragic incident occurred in Calabar, Cross River state on 22nd October 2018.
Reports have it that the twin boys, Bishop and Ituobong were consumed in a fire that started from a candle placed on the refrigerator by their mother.
A neighbour and victim, Daniel Udoh, said the tragedy was quite unfortunate and could have been avoided but for the carelessness of the mother of the children.
Udoh said, “Their mother made them tea and bread and left for her boyfriend’s house leaving a candlelight on the refrigerator and asked them to off the candle when they were done but they slept off. I started noticing smoke at about 1 am and before I could come out with my son my house was already in flames from the roof while the woman’s room was already engulfed in fire. We tried putting off the fire but it was very difficult because of the rubber ceiling(PVC) which eventually escalated the fire that took over the entire compound.”
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Cross River State, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident, adding that “the lady is at our office because we leant the people in the neighbourhood wanted to lynch her. They blamed her that it was her fault that the children died in such a tragic manner because she went to sleep at her lover’s place.”
Civil Engineer overcomes 14 failed relationships and finds love with mother of one, 19 years his senior

He advises young Nigerian men to look outside their comfort zones whenever they need to find love.
We all want to fall I love, but most importantly, be loved back because one-sided love stories are like no love. When you’re the only one emotionally invested in any relationship, you will end up getting hurt.
That is the story of Nigerian Civil Engineer, consultant, and philanthropist, Abubakar Sanusi who has experienced a shocking 14 failed relationship.
The CEO of Sanusi Construction Group and The Sanusi Foundation narrates his story via his Twitter account @abubakarsanusi_ and advises young Nigerian men to emulate his ‘thinking outside the box.’
He has finally found love with a single mom 19 years older than him, “A guy of 25 years old, in love with a 35-year-old divorcee, not much of a beauty but hard working, isn’t that what guys should be exploring? Instead of chasing teenage/early 20-year-old beautiful girls who just care about the luxury and not true love.
“I had exactly 14 relationships, and rich girls, middle-class girls, beautiful, ugly, Yoruba, Igbo, Edo, Hausa and Fulani, but all of my age rate. And the longest relationship was a year and a half and the shortest was 3 weeks.
“But now, to all my crushers, and friends and family, I have been dating a lady over 4 months now and for the first time #IFoundLove to a baby mama, 19 years older than me, not from a wealthy background but better than any girl I ever come across.”
Maybe not everyone will find love in the orthodox ways, and Sanusi should be proud of what he’s achieved.

Nigerian man who lives abroad rants hilariously in Yoruba after being placed in vegetable diet (Video)

The food contains he was put on contained raw greens, egg and potatoes and he rants entirely in Yoruba.
Eating healthy is a necessity and it requires making sacrifices to leave the sweeter, more enjoyable fatty foods that ultimately hamper our health. However, we can all agree that it is hard.
That sacrifice comes easy to some, while most suffer and find it hard to leave those foods.
It is reasonable. Vegetables are grossly uninteresting and very bland to eat, some of them are even bitter or tasteless, when you could be eating a full plate of pounded yam and egusi soup with stewed beef, ponmo or fish while the chicken or turkey chills on the side.
Even those ones who like eating healthy sometimes fall on their knees to down a bar of chocolate or consume a rich late of Indomie noodles with fried egg laid on it like a bedsheet.
We need to eat healthily, but for some, it is necessary to preserve their lives. Thus, the predicament of this Nigerian man, unnamed and probably in his 50s, being forced to eat healthy on a diet of vegetables, boiled egg and potatoes is understandable.

While they wanted him to lose his belly fat, he wanted to eat good food, not healthy food.
In the video, filmed in his car, the man was dressed so corporately in a tie and shirt while his ID Card hung from his neck, but he complained bitterly about his new diet while laughing sarcastically and spoke in very deep Yoruba language, lamenting his new situation and likening himself to goats - how they consume leaves.
He says, “When one is not a goat, for God sake, and one is eating grass. Can you see? All because they said I have a big belly and should reduce it.
“Just look at it. I’m consuming grass like a goat. I now used a tie (rope) around my neck like a goat. Hope I won’t turn into a goat, for God sake? The whites are unfortunate. Only God knows where they got these grasses from.
“No wonder goats eat grasses. So grasses are this sweet! Can you see? Boiled potatoes. They even added boiled potatoes. But it’s not like our own potatoes. They even included egg. They said I should be eating egg alongside potatoes for God sake.”
Obviously, the man was abroad. Please enjoy the video here;

38-yr-old driver rapes neighbour's 2-yr-old daughter

The child's mother says she left her daughter with the driver, but he denies ever being with the child, let alone rape her.
This is an atrocity, how would a full-grown man rape a child? What sort of attraction is that? That is simply psychotic behavior.
On October 24, 2018, at Taiwo street, Agbado-Ijaye, Lagos, a 38-year-old commercial bus driver named Sola Ewulo, has been arrested for allegedly defiling his neighbor’s unnamed two-year-old daughter.
The Nation reports that Ewulo the victim’s mother, who had left her in Ewulo’s custody to run an errand came back to find her daughter in deep pains, crying. When she checked her daughter, she found semen-like whitish substance dripping from her private part.
When she asked the sobbing two-year-old who perpetrated the act, she pointed at Ewulo, but he denied even being the one charged with looking after the girl. He also says he was not at home at the time and said he had three daughters, so couldn't do such.
Lagos State Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal corroborated this account, “When she returned after a couple of minutes, she could not find her daughter nor the man she left her with. Much later, she saw her daughter on the corridor of the house scratching her private parts and she complained about the pains she was experiencing.
On closer examination by her mother, she noticed some whitish substance dripping out of her private parts.” Edgal then said the victim’s mother asked her who did that to her and she mentioned Ewulo.
In response, Ewulo says, “I was not even around. It is not true that the mother left her with me. She usually left her with neighbors, not anyone in particular.
“That day, I was not even around. I was told that sperm was seen on the child’s body and she said I was the one that did it. I do not know anything about it. I have three daughters and so, how will I do that to a little girl?”

24-yr-old woman cuts off boyfriend's manhood over cheating

She claims she wanted to "even the love equation."
Talk about a woman with raging jealousy and you might discover her real name is Rehema Kabayana, a 24-year old Ugandan woman who cut off her boyfriend’s penis with a kitchen knife while deep in his sleep.
His offence was a suspicion that he was cheating because he became a frequent visitor to a bar, where he allegedly flirts with other girls in Mukono, Uganda.
News Vision reports the Police as saying that Kabayana waited for her 28-year-old boyfriend, Anthony Sekewa to fall asleep before executing the devilish plan to horrific outcomes. She claims she wanted to “even the love equation.”
Asides the bar flirtation, she was convinced that Sekewa was having an affair with another woman in the neighborhood. Kabayana cut off Sekewa’s penis from the very base with a four-inch knife. Sekewa has since been in a Kampala hospital receiving treatment.
Police quotes her as saying, “I discovered that he was secretly going out and flirting with other girls at different bars. This made me very angry. I was full of anger inside and couldn’t relax.”

Edufirst.Ng, Canadian firm ink agreement worth $1m, plans to upscale IT related skills

Edufirst is commencing the first series of its international partnerships focused on building capacities and developing core skills that will be relevant to the future of Nigeria
With certain jobs already becoming obsolete thereby skyrocketing the demand for IT related jobs globally, Nigeria will have to toughen its efforts in making sure that graduates and non-graduates are adequately equipped with the right skill set.
It is on this side-line that EduFirst.ng, an indigenous organization and a subsidiary of Skool Media, signed a partnership (agreement) worth $1 million on Thursday with Jobminders Incorporated, a human capacity development company based in Canadan.
The $1 million would be channelled towards building capacities and repositioning the scope of the Nigerian graduate by making them more globally competitive in IT related field in the next five years.
Consequently, both companies are looking at developing an online virtual learning and Mobile App tagged “Edufirst Tek Classes” which will accommodate training programmes for fresh graduate, top-level management and executives on core managerial skills.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Moses Imayi, the CEO and Co-founder of Edufirst described the partnership as a bold step geared towards ensuring that a standardized curricular for digital and IT skills training program is being provided to many Nigerians.
He said Edufirst is commencing the first series of its international partnerships focused on building capacities and developing core skills that will be relevant to the future of Nigeria.
Imayi emphasized that with the growing trend of job losses and skills gap the country, the indigenous firm is committed to ensuring that IT deficiencies are addressed while making the Nigerian labour market become more vibrant in adopting relevant skills sets that resonate with the 21st century years.
Imayi maintained that the training offerings to be covered in the first phase of the partnership with Jobminders are skills set that are globally recognized which would help any participant to be employable anywhere in the world.
He clarified that the partnership with the Canadian firm was not aimed at immigrating Nigerians to developed countries in search of greener pastures, thus refuting the idea that Edufirst runs and offers immigration services to Nigerians.
“You don’t need to be in Canada or US to do an IT project because you can work virtually; therefore it is not about sending Nigerians to work in the overseas. The most important thing and the whole idea is to equip them, bridge the gap in the IT-related skills,” he said.
According to the Vice President of Jobminders Incorporated, Charles Osazuwa, the demand of IT-related jobs are humongous while the available skill sets to do these jobs are scarce and has become imperative to start nurturing the needed skills for Nigerian to fit in into the labour market.
He said lots of jobs are being outsourced to many people at different climate but Nigeria still does not get its quota due to the skills gap in those fields.
“Most times I see Nigerians end up working in factories in developed countries because most of them don’t have the skills to take up certain jobs which employers are always seeking for.
He said being a staffing support industry; Jobminders Incorporated is poised to deliver personnel with the right qualification, attitude and enthusiasm to employers globally by equipping IT enthusiasts who are ready to develop themselves in the field of technology.

Greensprings School brings ‘Get to Know Us’ to prospective parents, student

The event will provide parents with an opportunity to get answers directly from the school administrators, rather than rely only on generic online third party sources.
In an effort to help parents make a well-informed decision regarding their children’s educational career path; Nigeria’s first thinking school will be hosting her yearly “Get to Know Us” programme; a one-day event on each campus for prospective parents and students to engage with pupils, teachers and administrators of Greensprings School.
The event will provide parents with an opportunity to get answers directly from the school administrators, rather than rely only on generic online third party sources.
According to Uche Ogbu, Head of Corporate Strategy; "answers to enquiries such as, how does the Thinking School curriculum affect my child’s education? Will my child get well-rounded education? What is the appropriate early education next step for my child? etc. will be provided at the event.
It is important to note that choosing the right school for your child can be very emotional and parents sometime require external support to guide them through the process. Get To Know Us is an avenue to get the necessary support," Ogbu added.
In Nigeria, there has been an influx of private secondary schools, springing up daily with all kinds of packages; thereby making it more difficult for parents to pick a school of choice for their child.
At the “Get to Know Us” 2018 event, the methods of teaching and learning will be shared with prospective parents and some of them will get a chance to register their children for our Shadow Day (a full day experience on campus).
If your child qualifies for the Shadow Day, he/she will be invited to spend a full school day at Greensprings School at a later date. He/she will take part in the classroom and field work for the day. At the end of the shadow day, you and your child will be able to determine if Greensprings is the appropriate school for your child.
Other highlights of the event will include:
•Information on the scholarships obtainable through sports and academic achievements;
•Steps in redefining education in Africa;
• Recent IGCSE students’ performance
• Being a Nigeria’s first and only “Thinking School” and how it affects today’s society

The campaign was dedicated to raising awareness of hand washing with soap as a key approach to good hygiene and disease prevention. It was initiated to reduce childhood mortality rates, related respiratory and diarrhoeal diseases by introducing simple behavioral changes, such as hand washing with soap to reduce diseases.
Below are 5 things we learnt from the global handwashing day event:
-
1. Hygiene-related diseases such as diarrhoea causes one in five Nigerian children to die each year. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), over 150,000 children die in Nigeria from poor hand hygiene, these are scary numbers that could easily have been preventable by washing hands with soap and a clean bowl of water.
-
2. Nigerians are negligent on the practice of hand washing until a credible threat presents itself, this is a norm that must stop and hand washing should be made to be an integral way of us taking care of ourselves, a good example is the ebola outbreak of 2014 where simple hand washing could have saved countless lives.
-
3. On a daily basis, we constantly interact with microbes all around us through the food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink. These microbes are so tiny that they cannot be seen by the naked eyes and a majority of them cause diseases.
-
4. The importance of teaching children the benefits of hand washing is paramount, children are the most susceptible to numerous diseases such as influenza, chicken pox, diarrhoea etc. School programs where children are taught the importance of hand washing before the preparation of meal, before and after eating, after going to the toilet, etc.
-
5. The practice of hand hygiene is the simplest and most effective way of preventing infections which will further help to reduce the death rate in any community. For healthcare personnel, there are "5 moments" for performing hand hygiene: before and after touching a patient, before a clean procedure, after exposure to body fluids, after touching a patient and after touching a patient's surroundings.
Dettol has been running health and hygiene programmes across Nigeria where new mothers are educated from pregnancy to the birth of the child on healthy hygiene habits across various milestones of their newborn’s life. Over 1 million mothers are engaged every year through the programme in public hospitals and clinics across Nigeria.

Madam Faith told Blessing to;
1.) Hide her money in her boot or workers from other prostitution rings would pretend to be clients and try to steal it from her.
