APC Gave Ali Modiu Sheriff $1m for Proposed PDP Convention, Says Fayose
Ekiti
State governor Mr. Ayodele Fayose has accused the ruling All
Progressive Congress (APC) of investing over $1 million in the Senator
Ali Modu Sheriff proposed national convention.“This is being done so as to sustain the party’s plot to turn Nigeria to a one party state,” Fayose said in a statement. The governor who spoke through his Special Assistant on Public
Communications and News Media, Mr Lere Olayinka, said there would not be
any meaningful reconciliation with somebody like Senator Ali Modu
Sheriff who, he accused, was working for political interests different
from that of the PDP.He disowned a report of reconciliation committee headed by Bayelsa
State governor, Seriake Dickson, which was submitted to Sheriff on
Tuesday. Fayose, who is Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum noted that “all
constitutionally recognised organs of the party, including staff of the
national secretariat are with the Markafi led Caretaker Committee,”
adding that “since political party is about membership, Sheriff will
continue to carry with himself the burden of lack of legitimacy.”The governor however, said he had nothing against Governor Dickson,
but added, “I must state it categorically that no genuine lover of the
PDP will take part in a convention sponsored by the APC.”Governor Fayose, who said implementation of the Dickson Committee
report was beyond Sheriff as he could not have seven governors or former
ministers to serve in the convention committee, reiterating that no
meaningful reconciliation would be done with Senator Sheriff, adding
that; “with APC calling for support for Sheriff, it should be clear to
all genuine lovers of the PDP who are behind the crisis in the party.”
