DSS DG calls back PUNCH correspondent to Aso Rock

By Nwafor Sunday

The director general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, has asked, the state house correspondent of The Punch newspaper, Olalekan Adetayo, to return to the presidential villa in Abuja.

Report has it that Adetayo was  barred and expelled from the villa over a story on President Muhammadu Buhari’s health, published on Sunday by his media house.

However,  in a letter to Garba Shehu, senior special assistant on media and publicity to the president on Monday night, he said,  “We just got a clearance from Malam Lawal Daura, the DG SSS to recall Lekan to the Villa.

“Please come along with him tomorrow. The special adviser on media, Femi Adesina and I will resolve the issues.

“Please advise the correspondents and the rest of your members to handle this with maturity. It will not help anyone to start daring the security. Lekan should be assured that he is safe. We will straighten out everything.

In view of this therefore, it is very imperative to recall that this is not the first time journalist has been embarrassed and expelled from Aso villa. This dates back from the era of military system in Nigeria down to the democratic era of Goodluck Jonathan.

No government exists to perform effectively via the provisions of the constitution without a true recognition of ‘The Fourth Estate of the Realm’.
