ICAN tasks members on exemplary conduct

..As Vanguard accountants bag fellowship

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, has charged its members to live above board by exhibiting exemplary conduct.

Also, Vanguard Accountant, Mr. Samuel Iroegbulem and Deputy Accountant, Mr. Michael Oso, were conferred with the ICAN Fellowship Award symbolizing that they have acquired and continued to demonstrate professional knowledge, skills and excellence in their profession.

Speaking at the 15th Conferment of Fellowship Award Ceremony in Lagos, President of ICAN, Deacon Titus Soetan, said that the status of a Fellow is the highest professional status that can be attained by any member of the accountancy profession worldwide, conferred on select members annually in line with global practice.

Soetan said: “This noble institute, in my view, has pioneered various initiatives and made remarkable progress in various fields both locally and internationally by leveraging on the expertise and ingenuity of its members. Therefore, except Chartered Accountants continue to demonstrate these great ideals and thrive on the virtues of their profession through exemplary conduct, we cannot legitimately claim to be the conscience of the nation.”

Yet this is our historical and professional mandate that we need to guard jealously.”

In his remarks, Iroegbulem said, “I give thanks to God who made this possible, it has been a long journey after my Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) certificate about 12 years ago, today I am being conferred with the fellowship award which signifies the highest honour of certificate that members can attain in the institute. With this conferment it shows how a member is regarded and relied on issues of competence and reckoned with.

On his part, Oso, “It is a privilege and honour for me to be a fellow of the institute, it all started in 2005 when I passed the exams about 12 years ago and I was inducted in 2006, since then I thank God for how far he has taken me. By our motor: accuracy and integrity, to be conferred you must be a honest person, follow the principle of honesty, by doing so you have to endure and persevere.
