NDDC to recover funds from defaulting contractors

By Jimitota Onoyume

PORT HARCOURT—  Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC,   is set to recover funds from defaulting contractors handling its projects in the Niger Delta regoin.

Managing Director of the commission, Mr Nsima Ekere, disclosed this, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at the end of a management committee meeting, adding that the commission had devised measures to recover the funds.

Urging contractors to ensure they returned to site within the next two weeks, Ekere said that the Federal Government was determined to speed up development in the region.

He said that the commission had started compiling names of defaulting contractors in the region for necessary action, warning those who had been mobilised but have not returned to site to do so immediately to avoid embarrassment.

He enjoined stakeholders in the region to be actively involved in efforts by the commission to drive development in the region.

He added: “It is important for our contractors to realise that it can no longer be business as usual. It is important for everyone doing business with NDDC to realise that things must be done properly, how they ought to be done and when they ought to be done.”
