Cargo export: ABX World pioneers solar, IoT powered farmers’ mart in Nigeria

By Lawani Mikairu

In a bid to increase the volume of cargo export, especially agricultural goods, in Nigeria,   ABX World Nigeria, a key working partner of Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and leading private sector campaigner for massive revolution in agriculture, has launched ‘Abxworld Farmers’ Market’.

According to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ABX World, Captain John Okakpu ,”the farmers’ mart is a solar-powered kiosk that comes equipped with an upright freezer and a beverage refrigerator with embedded interactive mobile application; a foremost Internet of Things solution that will revolutionalise agricultural supply chain in the country and shall be strategically deployed in the streets.”

While speaking to journalists at the 2017 Food West Africa held in Lagos ,Captain Okakpu said the project will soon enter large scale implementations that will enhance food sufficiency for local consumption and enough for export and this will impact positively on States’ internally generated revenue.

He also said  “The United Nations at different Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) reports, for example, reminds the world regularly that one third (1/3) of the global agricultural produce which roughly stands at an estimated 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted annually and mainly because such foods are simply not available at the locations where they are badly needed. We want to ensure this is eliminated in Nigeria through abx world’s famers’ market to be deployed at strategic points in our streets”.

“Essentially, as the only Global GAP member and a certified local Gap owner in Nigeria that produces and exports good, hygienic and safe agricultural products which are safe for consumption.
