IMG seeks relief for Ajapa-Ijaw refugees

By Tare Youdeowei

Ijaw Monitoring Group, IMG, has appealed to the federal and state governments, as well as the international community, to provide relief materials and medical aid to victims of the recent military invasion at Ajapa-Ijaw in Ese-Odo Local Government Area, Ondo State.

In a statement, the Coordinator, IMG, Comrade Joseph Evah, said: “We, hereby, notify the entire world that Ajapa people are peaceful and law abiding. The level of destruction by the military, while looking for suspected criminals, was like a war situation which did not follow the United Nations rules of engagement when searching for suspected criminals.

“The need for urgent resettlement of the people and their survival is a cause for concern and the first step is to allow the Red Cross carry out humanitarian services, followed by comprehensive rehabilitation exercise based on United Nations standard.”
