ILORIN—Elder statesman and ambassador-designate from Kwara State, Alhaji Muhammed Nurudeen, has urged the Federal Government to commence convening regular meetings of the ethnic nationalities in the country to share their problems and proffer solutions capable of advancing the unity of the country.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, following the recent quit notice by Northern youths to Igbo to leave the region, Alhaji Nurudeen said: “The non-holding of constant consultations with the ethnic groups since after independence has brought the current issue of agitations being experienced in the country.
“There were lots of burning issues that arose after independence among the ethnic groups.
“So if the government has been having regular meetings with them, it would have provided an opportunity to know their ill-feelings and, thereby, finding ways to address them before they snowballed into what the nation is currently witnessing.
“The present administration can start the process now. It will curb the current agitations across the country.”
