President of NAIG,  Collins Edema, who made the call on behalf of the host communities’ graduates’ coalition in a telephone chat, said that the directive became necessary following the intervention of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli at a meeting held June 27 at the Warri monarch’s palace.

Edema, while noting that the Itsekiri, Ijaw and Ilaje graduates’ coalition will continue to ensure that indigenes of Chevron host communities are not deprived of their legitimate rights and entitlements in line with the Nigerian Content Act, said that efforts were ongoing to address the grievances of the VTP5/ OTP2 and VTP6/OTP3 trainees.

He enjoined Chevron to immediately do the needful in terms of the 151 trainees’ welfare and ensure better working conditions for them, stating that people of Chevron host communities will endeavour to maintain good relationship with the company while agitating for their legitimate rights.
