ABUJA—THE National Executive president of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Alhaji Musa Shehu Isiwele has called on the federal government to bring back toll gates on the nation’s road so as to save lives as well as generate revenue for the country.
Alhaji Isiwele, in an exclusive interview with Vanguard in Abuja, explained that bringing back toll gate on the high ways will not increase transport fare and hardship as was argued in some quarters, rather, it would reduce hardship as government will utilise the proceeds from it to take care of other national issues.
He also stated that his union, which recently bought Biodata Capturing Machine to have the information of members so as to ensure the genuine members, had signed three Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with three international partners to bring in about 4,000 vehicles.
But the MoU had to be put on hold as a result of the problem associated in sourcing for forex and the high price of dollar against the Naira which would shoot up prices of the vehicles.
