Gov Emmanuel’s aide resigns over alleged 20 months redundancy

By Emmanuel Ayungbe

UYO—Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State on Electoral Matters in-charge of Ikot Ekpene senatorial district, Mr. Christopher Okorie, yesterday, resigned his appointment with the state government.

In his resignation letter addressed to the governor through the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr  Etekamba Umoren, Okorie lamented that he was in office 20 months without functioning.

He stated that since he assumed duties as Special Assistant to the Governor in December 2015, he has been left to float in the system without office and briefs as to what his functions entail.

He said: “Please recall that with letter dated December 1, 2015, I was appointed as your Special Assistant, SA, on Electoral Matters (Ikot Ekpene senatorial district).  Twenty months down the road, I am yet to be assigned duties commensurate with my status and pedigree, nor provided with basic work tools, not even an office space. Worse still, there is no hope that this situation will improve in the nearest future.”

Thanking the governor for the privilege to serve in the system,  he said that his resignation will afford him the opportunity to exert his energy elsewhere in the development of the state.
