LAGOS SCHOOL KIDNAP: DAY 34 Police trail kingpin, America

By Evelyn Usman

Lagos—The Police yesterday, said that they had begun manhunt for another kidnap kingpin identified simply as America, suspected to be responsible for the abduction of the six Senior Secondary School students of Lagos Model College, Igbonla, Epe, last month.

This is just as confused parents of the abducted students refused to speak  on the incident, declaring rather that they were depending on God to miraculously rescue their children.

Police sources hinted that the manhunt for America and members of his gang began in earnest Saturday, with concentration on some locations within three undisclosed states where the kidnap kingpin is known to operate.

Intelligence report at Vanguard’s disposal also revealed that the threat letter to a sister school at Kankon , Badagry, was written by members of America’s gang.

The gang’s intention as gathered, was to raise funds following the heavy loss it suffered in the hands of the military at one of its camps in Ajakpa area of Ondo State, where their overall leader, Ossy Ibori, was killed during a duel with the military, last month.

America, who assumed leadership of the gang after the death of Ossy, reportedly led the operation that led to the abduction of the six Senior Secondary School students on May 24, 2017.

Vanguard was informed that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, who is visibly disturbed over the delay in the students’ rescue, had given a marching order to his Intelligence Response Team, IRT to nab America and members of his gang at all cost, as well as to ensure the release of the students.

Police sources said: “God that helped us to get the most brilliant kidnapper in the history of Nigeria, Evans, will also help us to get America and members of his gang. Already three members of the gang have been arrested in Benin while on their way to visit one of their members who sustained injury during the last onslaught against them. We are confident that the students will return home to their parents alive”, sources assured.

But when one of the concerned parents was contacted yesterday, he replied angrily: “I am tired of speaking to anyone; be he a journalist or a security operative on my abducted son. Every time my phone rings, the caller usually asked questions on whether the students have been released, after that, nothing meaningful will come out of it.

“I am confused and have decided not to speak to anyone again on it. Rather, I have resorted to leave everything in God’s hands, with the believe that he will see to their rescue. It is so disappointing and heart breaking … “, he said and hung up.

Other parents reached also declined to speak at length. They only expressed their disappointment over inability of the state government and the Police to rescue their children.

One of them who did not mince words said: “It is obvious that the Lagos state government has totally forgotten about us.”
