Muslim group charges govt on alleged Islamisation agenda

By Wahab Abdullah

National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations, NACOMYO, has emphasized the need for government agencies to imbibe the doctrine of wide consultation, advocacy, among stakeholders, in policy formulation and implementation to realize specific initiatives and standard.

NACOMYO, in its Eid-el fitri message, urged Federal Ministry of Education (FMOE) to consult and do justice to issues raised by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Catholic Church over an alleged Islamisation agenda by the ministry on perceived short-changing of Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) with Arabic/Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRK) and other subjects.

The apex youth Muslim group noted that the practice of engaging stakeholders in pursuit of national goal will arrest suspicion, distrust, skepticism and prevent conflict situation that will jeopardize attaining lofty aims and objectives.

According to NACOMYO, “‘advocacy’ is a veritable approach to reconciliation and therefore counseled leadership of religious and other groups to painstakingly seek clarification and explanation over agitation or matters from concerned Agencies before rushing to the media in order not to heat up the polity.

NACOMYO has thus implored the FMOE to redress the alleged preference or bias if it existed, stating that equity, fairness and justice are virtues that engender good governance and harmonious living.
