Plaintiff told me to lie against defendant, witness tells court

Mr Shiro Peter, a witness, on Thursday told an FCT High Court, Kubwa, that Faith Abdullahi, a plaintiff, asked him to lie against a defendant, Samuel Omowunmi.

Omowunmi, a pastor in an undisclosed church, was arraigned by EFCC in an amended charge of alleged N26 million fraud.

He was charged for allegedly collecting money from a company, Rafuya Nigeria Limited, under the pretence to obtain plots of land within the FCT.

Peter who was led in evidence by Mr Adewale Adenoja, and was cross examined by the prosecuting counsel, Mrs Yetunde Alabi, told the court that Mrs Abdullahi, the plaintiff, asked him to make false statement to the EFCC.

He said that the plaintiff, who was also the Managing Director of the said company, called him and asked him to tell the EFCC that the defendant collected money from her.

“She told me that she had reported the land matter to the EFCC and that they may call me for questioning and that if so, I should say that Mr Omowunmi collected money from me to process the land.

“But I told her I could not go and make any misrepresentation and more over, there were six other people I know, whom also paid for the same plot of land.”

When asked if the defendant was a staff of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and if the defendant gave the plaintiff the allocation papers, Peter said no.

Ogbonnaya, however, adjourned the matter until July 18, for continuation of trial.
