PSP Operators: ‘Defendants are still flouting Court’s order’

By Onozure Dania

THE Private Waste Operators of domestic and commercial waste in Lagos, also known as private sector participants, PSP operators, has told a Lagos High Court sitting at Tafa Balewa Square that despite the court’s order for parties to maintain status quo, the defendants have continued to flout the court’s order.

The claimants said that while the matter was still pending in court the defendants made a publication on February 6, 2017, in a  newspaper wherein a government agency, Ministry of the Environment of Lagos State, made an invitation for the recertification of existing waste management companies PSPs, for solid waste management in Lagos State.

The defendants in the suit are the Lagos State Government, the Attorney-General of Lagos State, Commissioner for the Environment, the proposed foreign operators and their local agents – namely Visionscape Group, Visionscape Santiation Solutions Limited, and ABC Sanitation Solutions Limited.

The claimants through their lawyer A. Oluwatosin, also told Justice Oyekan Abdullahi that they received a letter dated May 9, from Visionscape Group, Visionscape Sanitation Solutions Limited, and ABC Sanitation Solutions Limited who are the fourth to sixth defendants that they are the selected primary residential waste collector under the Lagos State Government Cleaner Lagos initiative, CLI.

At the last adjourned date the court had asked parties to maintain status quo, but they have continued to disobey the court’s order. He said, “In this case, our clients have filed an application for an order of injunction all in order to preserve the existing rights, interest and circumstances before the commencement of the above mentioned suit, against the Lagos State Government and the other parties therein.”
