Sokoto Independent Power Project, IPP, which has remained uncompleted for nine years, from the initial six-month completion period, requires N1,641,000,000 for completion.
This was one of the recommendations of a joint committee inaugurated by the Sokoto State government to assess the state of the project.
Presenting the report to Governor Aminu Tambu-wal, yesterday, Chairman of the committee, Engr. Bello Suleiman, said: “70 percent of the project has been completed. N1,641,-000,000 is required for the remaining 30 percent, which could be completed in four months.”
Responding, Governor Tambuwal said the report will be considered by the State Executive Council, adding “we will look at the report positively and favourably.”
Noting that N3.2 billion has so far been spent and a variation of N5.2 billion was made on the project, he said the N1.6 million was not much considering the commercial nature of the project.
Suleiman added that though the project was designed to operate by use of gas, the committee recommended its conversion to liquefied petroleum gas.
The project was initially awarded ýat N3.8 billioný to be completed in six months.
