ACTING President, Mr. Yemi Osinbajo has revealed that long before his emergence as running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2015 presidential election, he and two other Christian friends had proposed a pathway for the nation’s transformation.
Speaking at the 7th anniversary celebration of Trinity House in Lagos, he maintained that the Senior Pastor of the church, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, who he described as a politician, Pastor Kemela Okara and himself held several meetings in Lagos trying to fashion out a way forward for the nation.
He revealed that after several deliberations on whether he should take a shot at the government House Alausa, Lagos, the triumvirate came up with a trinity accord which spelt out a pathway to our nation and several other things that could transform the country.
“To cut a long story short, as God would have it, by the end of 2014 I was nominated as vice presidential candidate of the APC and as they say, the rest is now history. But I must say those meetings by the three of us and several other meetings held in some other fora were largely based on faith because we did not have any political structure or any kind of political force as such.
“We were just committed to the idea that Christianity itself is a force for change, for transforming nations, men and women and for doing those things God has called us to do, namely disciplining the nations,” he stated.
Continuing, the Acting President said: “Christianity is above everything; Christianity believes that the means of transforming nations are not controlled by the flesh and so, we agreed that unlike any other set of beliefs, Christianity calls up to sacrifice in order to transform.
“And so, we are enjoined to love our neighbours, to pray for those who despise us and pray for those we should condemn; even when we know that some would want us to fall, we are meant to pray for them and not to revenge. The compelling power of the gospel of Jesus Christ has not been because Christians confronted others by phyical force.
“It has been because Christians had confronted others with love and compassion and with the strength of grace behind them; and that is what will change our nation and that is what will change the world. That is the fundamental of the Trinity Accord,” Osinbajo emphasised, urging the crowd at the Trinity House not to be surprised as to where the Lord is taking Pastor Ighodalo.
Asked to expand on the acting president’s political insinuations, the head pastor of Trinity House, Pastor Ighodalo refused to confirm or deny rumours that he would be vying for a senatorial seat in 2019.
In an interview after the ceremony, which attracted the creme de la creme of the society, including Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Minister of State for Petroleum Resoucres, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu; Prof. Pat Utomi, Mrs. Yetunde Odejayi, who represented the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Prince Tijani Oniru, who represented the Lagos royal family and Apostle Sunday Popoola, Pastor Ighodalo said he has every reason to thank God.
