ASABA—Delta State Government has given starter packs to 28 persons living with disabilities as part of its efforts to take them off the streets.
The persons empowered at a brief ceremony held in Asaba, included visually impaired, the deaf, the dumb and the physically challenged. The beneficiaries, who were trained in different skills of their choice, were given starter packs in fish production, arts and craft, catering and confectionary.
Speaking at the event, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Omatsola Williams, charged the beneficiaries to put the items to good use, adding that the Dr Ifeanyi Okowa administration was committed to the wellbeing of all Deltans.
Congratulating them, she warned them against selling the items, adding that if the starter packs were properly utilized, the skills they had learnt would lift them above poverty and also make them employers of labour.
The state Chief Job Creation Officer, Prof. Eric Eboh, at the event, said that the exercise was the second in the series for persons living with disabilities after being trained by the state government.
