Ex-militants seek integration into amnesty programme

By Ochuko Akuopha

OLEH—WORRIED by their alleged continued exclusion from the Presidential Amnesty Programme, ex-militants  under the aegis of Justice Group, have appealed to Coordinator of the programme, Brigadier-General Paul Boroh (retd.), to commence the process of their documentation and integration into the programme.

The former militants, in a letter to Boroh, lamented that they were yet to be included in the programme, despite keeping to the mandate of renunciation of all militant activities.

In the letter by their solicitor, Zion Inabowa, at the instance of their leaders, self-styled Generals David Ohwegbe, Marshall Atake and Arthur Akayovo, the ex-militants noted that they were convinced together with other militants to fully and actively embrace the amnesty programme.

The letter read: “Pursuant to the amnesty scheme as championed by the Federal Government,  our clients and followers submitted large cache of arms and ammunition to the Joint Task Force at the 3 Battalion, Effurun Barracks, Delta State.

“Contrary to the express promise of the Federal Government, six years after the presidential amnesty was announced, the leadership of the Presidential Amnesty Programmes refused to document and integrate our clients into the third phase of the amnesty programme.”
