The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Friday advised employers of labour to prioritise decent work, to eliminate poverty, inequality and ensure peace at work places.
NLC President Ayuba Wabba gave the advice when he led Labour leadership to visit some affiliate unions in Lagos to find out their challenges and ways to solve them.
According to Wabba, it is when a person has decent employment that he or she is comfortable and able to work with dignity and commitment.
”Decent work is a global issue and NLC is committed to it; and I urge all affiliates to do the same for harmony in the work place.”
The NLC president further said that any economic growth without job creation is an aberration because employment creation is one of the indices to assess the economic growth of a country.
”It is sad that our economy is not predicated on any economic activity. It is dependent on oil only and that is affecting us.
”There must be industrialisation for the economy to develop and thrive. People should have opportunities to create jobs and make money.”
Wabba also said that government should improve on power supply because it would be difficult for businesses to be sustained without electricity supply.
Furthermore, he suggested that the privatisation of the power sector could be reversed, if it was not achieving the desired purpose.
He noted that Canada reverted to its old method of power supply when the new one failed, adding that no country ever succeeded without adequate power supply.
