OVER 200 pensioners in Imo state, have prayed to God to rescue them from pain, suffering, intimidation and lack of money.
The pensioners who converged at St Mary’s Catholic Church, OKigwe Local Government Area in the state, also received relief materials as well as cash from Mr. Chris Chigbo Nwadigo.
Some of which were 10kg bags of Abakaliki rice, toiletries, food spices among others.
Speaking to Southeast voice, they said that their situation became worst as a result of waiting “endlessly” for their pension.
According to Anorue Ethelbert, Ihette Uboama Local Government said: “ You people may not understand what we are passing through but God in heaven understands. He is our comforter.
“I will like to say this, what we need at the moment is true change and that type of change begins with those at the leadership level. What I have to say is that God Almighty come and rescue us. We are in a very difficult situation.”
While Mr. Basil Dike, who worked at the Ministry of health in Owerri, said: “I am praying to God Almighty who created heaven and earth to come and clean our tears. Let me reveal this to you, it is not every pensioner that has survived this situation.
“But God in heaven is the one who we are crying to that our predicaments have reached that point where all of us are calling his name to intervene and save us.
Speaking also, Ahaneku R. N, Nwangele Local Government, described their condition as pathetic. “It is good that we work together to save ourselves from these pains and sufferings staring us in the face. How can people who have worked for the growth of the society be treated this way.
“I want to say God Almighty bless Chris Chigbo Nwadigo, for remembering his fathers’ and mothers’. We are not happy and God Almighty is watching everybody.”
Adding his voice, Mr. Solomon Anyadike, Isiala Mbano Local Government, called on his fellow pensioners in the state to first thank God Almighty for keeping them alive.
“For me I feel that we should first thank God Almighty for guiding and protecting us and has given to us the courage to survive. I pray he will not abandon us on the way.”
Also, Mrs. Theresa Anyanwu, Abom Mbaise Local Government, said that anybody who enjoys taking care of the old people would receive in abundant the blessings of God.
“We are proud to see a young man, Chris Chigbo Nwadigo, caring for the old people. There is something you people do not understand, you have to appreciate old people so that old age will get to you.”
In her own view, Mrs. Caroline Nwanalo, Onuimo Local Government, expressed fear that more hardship awaits pensioners if nothing was done to save them from the “intense hardship.”
Addressing the pensioners, Nwadigo briefly said: “Before you were born God has ordained you, what you will be and what your children will be. I want you to believe that help is on the way.
“Many things are happening the way it should not happen but don’t be afraid God will surely put smiles on your faces.”
