MMPN praises Ambode on NAHCON awards

Urges other govs to emulate him

The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, MMPN Lagos Chapter, has lauded Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of the state for bagging the prestigious award for the best performing state in the 2016 Hajj operations in Nigeria, beating all other 35 State Hajj Boards and agencies, to it.  The award was organized by National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON recently.

The chairman of the association, Alhaji AbdulKabir Alabi stated this while speaking with newsmen during a symposium organized by the group themed: “Hajj Operations and Media Responsibility” held at the Multi-Purpose hall of the Lagos Secretariat Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja yesterday.

Alhaji Alabi noted that it was a huge achievement in the entire Hajj operations for Christian governor to clear seven awards before other Muslim governors. According to him, “It is huge and very challenging indeed. For a  Christian Governor to clear seven awards to emerge best performing governors under the watch of other Muslim governors deserves commendation. We urge others to emulate him.”

On the symposium, he stated that the group organized the event as its contribution towards better operations and more media engagement to annual hajj pilgrimage. “We observe that beyond the facade of daily reportage of Islamic events, it is our duty not only as press men but as Muslims to make meaningful contributions towards improvements on certain areas of the religion.

“Undoubtedly, Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam has witnessed a lot of growth in the last few years with a lot of reforms. This is evidenced by the number of private operators and individuals that have keyed into the operation of the largest event in world.

He advised Muslim journalists to engage various pilgrims’ boards, agencies and commissions with a view to reporting hajj operation better.

Participants were drawn from all strata of the entire Hajj operations –  the Pilgrims welfare board, Private operators and carriers, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Media executives as well as individuals.
