Uyo—YOUTHS of communities hosting oil giant, Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited in Ibeno Lcal Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, have stormed the Qua Iboe Terminal Mkpanak, protesting the alleged insensitivity of the firm to the oil spill that occurred in the area on Tuesday .
The protesting youths, numbering over 200, blocked the entrances to the QIT, preventing the workers from entering the premises since Wednesday.
Spokesman of the youths and Chairman, Ibeno Youth Forum, Mr. Alphonsus Umoh, told Vanguard, yesterday, that they decided to embark on the peaceful protest following the oil firm’s refusal to accept responsibility for the recent spill.
Umoh said: “It is unfortunate that they are denying that it is from their facility that the oil spilled. I am among those who contacted them when we discovered the spill two days ago. But we are not surprised that they refused to accept responsibility for it because they are in the habit of doing that.
“Right now, we don’t have any other option than to stop them from going to work. We want them to clean up the oil spill, that is all. That is why we are protesting.”
