Rangers edge Rivers Utd in Enugu

Champions Enugu Rangers eased their Nigeria Professional Football League relegation worries following a hard-fought 2-1 win against Rivers United in a rescheduled matchday 32 game in Enugu on Monday.

The game was supposed to hold on Sunday but had to be postponed due to heavy downpour.

A brace from Ifeanyi George in the first half saw Rangers race to a 2-0 lead before Emeka Ogbugh scored for Rivers United to end the game 2-1.

George put Rangers 1-0 up in the 28th minute off an assist from Tope Olusesi. A minute later Rangers’ coach Sylvanus Akpala was sent to the stands by the referee for dissent. George scored his second goal to make it 2-0 to Rangers in the 38th minute from the penalty spot after the referee adjudged a handball inside the Rivers United box.
