Transport minister says driverless cars would not be allowed

India’s Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said driverless cars would not be allowed in India as the move would lead to unemployment.

The minister said the government would focus on training drivers as adequate driving skills could provide employment to about half a million people.

“How can we allow such vehicles when we already have huge number of unemployed people?.

“We are not going to promote any technology or policy that will render people jobless’’ Gadkari said.

The minister said the government was also planning to introduce and make GPS and satellite tracking mandatory in all public and private vehicles.
