ONITSHA—No fewer than 1,000 youths of Nkwelle-Ezunaka community in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra state, yesterday took to the major roads in protest against what they termed alleged plot to remove their town union executive headed by the President- General, Chief Ikechukwu Nnalue and their replacement with a caretaker committee.
Some of the protesters carried placards with inscriptions: “we want our P-G back. We love him. He is doing well. Nkwelle-Ezunaka says no to imposition of caretaker committee on us. We will deliver APGA on November 18 2017 governorship election in the state.”
The protesters, led by Mr. Innocent Ibemesi, later proceeded to Nteje, the Oyi council headquarters where the Transition Committee Chairman, Prince Charles Okafor (a.k.a wiper), commended them for a peaceful protest and pledged to carry their grievances to Governor Willie Obiano for a critical look.
According to Okafor, “I commend you for the peaceful protest inspite of your serious grievances and I assure you that your grievances would be carried to His Excellency, Governor Willie Obianor and as you go back home, continue to remain peaceful.”
Earlier on arrival at the council headquarters, the protesting youths, through their Chairman, Ibemesi, told the committee Chairman that they were surprised about the alleged plot to replace their elected town union executive with a caretaker committee for no just cause, adding that the people should be consulted before the removal of their innocent executive who according to them have brought infrastructural development to the community.
In their various remarks, Emmanuel Orjiakor and Ikechukwu Chukwurah, youths, attributed the plot to the handiwork of enemies of progress who they said were not popular to contest with the incumbent P-G and his executive come December this year, adding, “they want a short road to the office because they know that nobody will vote for them.”
From the council headquarters they came back to Nkwelle-Ezunaka town hall and vowed never to allow impostors to take over their community stating, “we have no crisis that will warrant the alleged plot to remove our town union executives”.
