ASABA— CRISIS is brewing at Agbarho Kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, over revenue derived from land sales between the monarch and President-General of the community, resulting to frequent clashes in the town.
The monarch, His Royal Majesty Ajuwe Samson Ogugu, had reportedly suspended the President-General of the community, Chief John Gbenenion, who has the backing of top Agbarho leader, General E O Obada (retd) and others.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, who confirmed the development to Vanguard, said: “The situation may snowball into a very bigger crisis and bloodletting in the kingdom if not nipped in the bud as early as practicable.
“Intelligence revealed a looming crisis in Agbarho community as a result of struggle for land and its proceeds between the King of Agbarho, who claimed that he, as the traditional ruler of the kingdom, is the feudal lord with the sole rights of administering the kingdom, including the sales of land.
“The President-General of the Tow Union, Chief Gbenedion, who is supported by General Obada (retd), on the other hand is claiming that he and his executive members have the rights to sell the land of Agbarho, pay salaries of chiefs, that of the king and maintain the palace.”
