Lawmaker advises constituents against indiscriminate waste disposal

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has appealed to residents of his constituent to avoid indiscriminate dumping of waste, especially during raining season.

Jibrin, who is also the Chairman, Committee on Lands and Survey in the House made the appeal on Tuesday in an interview with Newsmen in Karu, Karu Local Government area of the state.

He said it was worrisome that, despite state government’s efforts in ensuring safe and clean environment in Karu, some residents had formed the habit of dumping refuse indiscriminately in walk-ways and gutters.

The lawmaker said that the appeal became imperative considering the harmful effect of waste on human health and the need to ensure environmental cleanliness.

“The state government is doing its best in keeping the environment clean; it is also the responsibility of everyone to complement government efforts by keeping the environment clean.

“As it is often said, a healthy nation is a wealthy nation, it is on this note that government and stakeholders always advise the people on the need to maintain personal and environmental hygiene.

“I want to appeal to my constituents, especially residents of Masaka, Karu and Mararaba, to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse along Mararaba/Abuja high way, considering its health implication on human lives.

“The indiscriminate dumping of refuse is not good for the health of the people, especially those plying the road and even the residents because of its health hazard,” he said.

He further advised residents to always dump their refuse at designated places in the interest of their health.

The lawmaker reminded the people that indulge in indiscriminate dumping of waste that such behaviour often creates breeding ground for mosquitoes, poses danger to human health and could lead to spread of communicable diseases.

“Residents are advised to purchase dustbins and use them properly as refuse disposal.”

Jibrin assured the people of his continued commitment to hygiene and clean environment.
