The Niger Delta Intelligence and Transparency Group, NDITG, has called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State to support the Nigerian Navy, Army with security boats to curb the menace of insecurity in the waterways and incessant attacks on pipeline and oil facilities in the creeks.
The group, in a statement, yesterday, in Lagos, said: “The Navy in Delta State is ready to tackle insecurity in the waterways, but information available to us indicates that the Navy is lacking patrol and security boats and this is not good for a major oil producing state like Delta.“
The statement by its Coordinator, Mr. Friday Ewrujakpo, noted that Governor Okowa should emulate Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, who made similar gesture to support the Navy with security and patrol boats, which has reduced the crime rate and insecurity in Rivers State.
Ewrujakpo said Okowa should encourage and partner the Navy, by supporting them with security boats to boost their operations to effectively tackle the insecurity threatening lives and economic activities in the riverine areas of the state.
