Remain good ambassadors, envoy tells Nigerians in South Africa

Nigeria`s Consul General  in South Africa, Amb. Godwin Adama, has called on Nigerians in that country to be good ambassadors.

Adama made the call on Sunday at the celebration of  the new yam festival by the Igbo community in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Adama also commended Nigerian professionals doing well in various fields and disciplines in South Africa.

He urged Nigerians to resist illegal acts that could tarnish the country`s image and put them in trouble.

Adama stressed the need for more social cohesion between South Africans and other foreign nationals in the  country.

He further  advised Nigerians to come to the consulate for   passport renewal  as  the issuance process had been restructured.

Chief Jonas Udeji, the founder of  the Ohaneze Ndigbo  socio-cultural organisation in South Africa,   said the event was meant  commemorate the harvesting of  the new yam.

Udeji assured the envoy that Igbos would continue to be good ambassadors of  Nigeria  in South Africa.

He said Ohaneze had introduced  a “ think home policy’’  for  members to encourage them to invest in their local communities.

Dr  Raymond Okafor, the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Manager of  Kwazulu Natal Department of Health, called for more basic infrastructure in the country to attract investment.

“ Nigerians in the Diaspora are willing to come home and invest.

“ They need to be encouraged with the provision of basic infrastructure  like electricity as well as  good roads  and water to do these.

“ I assure you that if properly implemented, such investments will create more jobs and wealth as well as  open up  rural areas, ” he said.
