The Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, Engineer Chukwuemeka Woke, has called on all political leaders of Emohua Local Government Area of the state to work with the Governor Nyesom Wike administration to ensure lasting peace in the area.
Speaking after a strategic peace meeting with all political and security stakeholders from Emohua LGA in Port Harcourt, Wednesday night, Woke regretted that some opposition politicians were fanning the embers of violence in the council.
He said: “I want to enjoin my brothers , who are in the opposition political party never to encourage violence of any kind. If the council is destroyed, where will you conduct the election you are hoping to win.
“It is important to inform these boys that what they are doing is wrong and that it has nothing to do with politics. For me, this is a message of peace. It is about our people and their lives and property.”
He faulted claims by opposition politicians that the cult conflict in Emohua council was a fallout of the state amnesty programme.
He noted that Emohua council was not the only place where the amnesty programme was implemented, pointing out that other areas are enjoying relative peace.
