FAAN boosts ARFFS ability to cope with aircraft emergency mgt

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has enhanced the ability of Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, ARFFS, to cope with aircraft emergency management at airports.

FAAN, weekend, organised a stakeholders strategic conference on aircraft emergency management at airports for ARFFS in Lagos.

The conference, which was attended by FAAN staff, ARFF personnel and other aviation stakeholders, had as Guest Speaker, Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting specialist of the America Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, Washington, DC, Marc Tonnacliff.

In his lecture, Tonnacliff said constant training is very important for aircraft emergency management personnel and that those involved in the emergency management must be familiar with airport environment.

Delivering his goodwill message at the conference, Managing Director, FAAN, Saleh Dunoma, who was represented by the Director of Airport Operations, Capt. Rabiu Yadudu, said the conference was coming at a time when the process of certifying the five major airports is ongoing and it was the best time for the agency to hold a conference that addresses the challenges usually experienced in the handling and management of aircraft emergencies.

Also speaking, Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency(NAMA), Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, who was the chairman of the event, said Airport Emergency Plan, AEP, must be a collective effort among internal and external agencies for it to succeed. He said the workshop was important given the strategic importance of Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Service in the airport safety services domain.
