Lawmaker to Okowa: Order Ubeji Road contractor to speed up pace

By Onozure Dania

WARRI—THE member representing Ubeji/Egbokodo Constituency in Warri South Council Legislature Arm, Mr. Augustine Tete, has appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State to order the contractor handling the Ubeji Road expansion project in Warri South council to speed up work on the project.

Tete, who is a front-runner in the Warri South chairmanship race in the forthcoming council elections in Delta State, spoke at Ubeji, saying last week’s fire incident could have been avoided if the contractor was working in-line with the pace of Governor Okowa.

Commending the governor for re-awarding the road contract after 10 years of delay under his predecessor, he appealed to those who lost property worth millions of naira in the inferno to remain calm as efforts were ongoing to ensure that they were compensated.

The inferno, according to Tete, who is Deputy Chief Whip of Warri South Legislative Arm, which began about 8.30p.m., on September 7, affected about one-kilometre stretch of shops and a branch of Winners Chapel at Ubeji, Warri.

The affected tanker was said to be conveying over 30,000 litres of diesel from a tank farm in Ifiekporo, when it burst into flames at Ubeji Road, near Ubeji Grammar School.
