It was pomp and celebration in Lagos at the weekend, for Chief Azubuike Ekwerekwu, (Obosi), as Sarah Adebisi Sosoan Foundation (SASF) honoured him for his outstanding contributions to the development of the community, as well as his known passion for youth empowerment in the country.
The Foundation, by the former Lagos State deputy governor, Mrs. Sarah Adebisi Sosan, said Chief Ekwerekwu, among other things has shown to be a true and honest Nigerian. According to the statement, the Foundation noted that even though the award recipient is from South-East area of the country, he had used his wealth to touch the lives of Nigerians outside his own people, adding that “Ekwerekwu sees other people as Nigerians irrespective of ethnic group. He does not discriminate. He has broken the wall of ethnicity by being there for everyone, even as tribes and tongues may differ”, it said.
The Foundation continued:“This among other qualities has endeared him in the hearts of the people, and that is the reason for this award. The award is not just given to anybody, it is for somebody who has carved a niche in his chosen endeavours and has impacted positively in the lives of people”.
Barrister Magnus Uche Ubochi, received the award on behalf of Chief Ekwerekwu.
Reacting on the award, the recipient, Obosi, told Sunday Vanguard that he carried out his philanthropic activities without expecting rewards and recognitions, adding, “To me, we are all created by God, for the fact that you are from another ethnic group does not and should not deter me from doing what I believe is right and what God expects me to do.
“Since I don’t blow my trumpet on what I do for people, especially the youths, I never realised that a very important organisation like Sarah Adebisi Sosan Foundation was taking note of all these my activities.
“A Foundation set up by a high profile person like former deputy governor of Lagos State is worth its onions by every standard. This award will invariably galvanise me to do more for humanity”, Ekwerekwu assured.
