Funmi Iyanda digs into her archives and blesses us with old episodes of her hit TV show.
Funmi Iyanda is blessing us with some goodies from back in the day.
The veteran TV presenter has uploaded a few episodes of her important TV show 'New Dawn With Funmi'. The talk show ran on the government-owned NTA from 2000-2008 and is claimed to be the "longest running independently produced show on NTA."
'New Dawn With Funmi' is probably the best Nigerian talk show. Funmi Iyanda showed a lot of depth as she touched on human interest stories as well as celebrity interviews.
The show entered the history books as the first TV show to openly interview a gay man. That man is Bisi Alimi, an advocate for same-sex rights. That episode caused a lot of drama as you could imagine. Even today it would be pretty hard and ballsy to pull it off.
After 'New Dawn With Funmi' ended in 2008, Funmi Iyanda took a 2-year hiatus. In 2010 she returned to the TV screens with 'Talk With Funmi'.
Her YouTube channel has some good interviews from the past. We are waiting for the classic interview with Bisi Alimi though.
Funmi Iyanda was recently in the news because of her comments about Tboss, the former Big Brother Naija contestant. She said Nigerians did not like Tboss of her light skin and 'foreign' upbringing. Her comments received a lot of backlashes online.
In February 2017, rubbed conservative people the wrong way when she said she doesn't have any plans on getting married.
