By Samuel Oyadongha

YENAGOA—NEWSMEN in Bayelsa State were, yesterday, thrown into mourning following the shooting to death of Famous Giobaro by men suspected to be robbers.

Famous Giobaro, a journalist with Glory FM87.1 Yenagoa, popularly known as the Famous Man on Radio, was shot dead by the gunmen, who invaded his residence along INEC Road at the Kpansia suburb of Yenagoa, at about 5a.m. on Easter Sunday.

The invaders were said to have met with resistance from him while trying to force open the door to his house. They then shot him through the door.

It was, however, learned that the gunmen still forced their way into his house and shot him several times before they left him in a pool of blood.

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident, but said he was yet to get the full details.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Bayelsa State council, yesterday, lamented the tragic incident.

The union, in a statement by John Angese and Stanley Imgbi, Chairman and Secretary respectively, noted that the news of Mr. Giobaro’s death was a big blow to the journalism family in the state.

It called on police to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators of the act to book.
