Katsina Command needs 3,030 more policemen— Commissioner

By Bashir Bello, with agency report

THE Police Commissioner in Katsina State, Mr. Usman Abdullahi, yesterday, said the command has a shortfall of 3,030 personnel.

This came as the Supervising Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG, North-West Zone, Maigari Dikko, yesterday, called for empowerment of policemen to be more effective in the discharge of their duties instead of creating a peace corps.

Abdullahi spoke in Katsina, when DIG Dikko, visited the command.

His words: “The approved number of personnel for the command is 8,431. Its present strength is 5,401, with a shortfall of 3,030. We need additional personnel to  cover the state effectively.

“We are also calling for the establishment of additional Area Commands in Dutsin-ma and Malumfashi.”

Speaking, DIG Dikko, who was also in Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara, said the states had peculiar challenges, noting that “instead of creating mushroom organisation such as Peace Corps, let them empower the Force with more funding so police can be more effective.”
