A-Ibom expresses confidence in indigenous contractors

By Chioma Onuegbu

AKWA Ibom State government has expressed confidence in indigenous contractors’ ability to execute quality roads awarded to them and within specification.

Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, made the remark, yesterday, during routine inspection of ongoing road projects across the state awarded to three indigenous construction companies, Peculiar Ultimate Limited, Seyan Construction Limited and Hensek Nigeria Limited.

Inyang-Eyen said he was impressed by the quality and pace of work by the contractors, stressing that most local contractors only fail to deliver when they are not given free hand to execute contracts awarded to them.

Peculiar Ultimate Limited is handling the 14.1km Odoro Ikpe-Ikpe Ikon Nkon-Arochukwu road in Ini Local Government Area with a 10m span bridge. Seyang Construction Limited and Hensek Nigeria Limited are handling the 6.4km Nto Edino-Ekwerre Azu road with two span 45m  bridge in Obot Akara and Nnung Ukim road in Ikono Local Government Area, respectively.

He said: “These indigeneous contractors handling road projects in the state so far have been able to justify the confidence reposed in them by Governor Udom Emmanuel, who decided to give them a chance.”

The governor will be impressed when he visits these areas to inspect the road projects before they are commissioned on May 29 to mark his second anniversary in office. The contractors are succeeding against all odds because  they are being given the free hand to do their job. The only thing that state government has always insisted on is that the contractors must not compromise oneir job specification and standard.’’
