Complex health system kills 1m annually— PHN

THE Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria, PHN, has disclosed that one million women and children die annually as a result of demand and supply challenges recorded in the country’s complex and dynamic health system.

The Chief Executive Officer of PHN, Mr. Muntaqa Umar-Sadiq, stated this at the Grand Health Bazaar 2017, organised by Livewell Initiative, LWI, noting that the supply challenges are shortage of critical human resources, weak supply chain systems, commodity stock-outs and infrastructure deficit, while the demand for critical services is very low, largely driven by poor quality of care, affordability, cultural barriers and awareness.

He said the private sector can be an important partner in the areas of capabilities, delivery, coordination, innovation and impact investment.

Meanwhile, during the three-day health bazaar, which had as theme Creating Shared Value as an Essential Tool for Enhanced Corporate Sustainability, Chief Executive Officer of LWI, Mrs. Bisi Bright, announced the launch of the Women in Hepatitis Africa, WIHA.

She said Hajiya Halima Dangote, Executive Director of the Dangote Group, who was represented by Global Ambassador WIHA, Hajiya Asaba Musa Yar’Adua, charged other ambassadors of WIHA to use their influence and resources to fight for the eradication of Hepatitis and patients’ stigmatisation.

During the health bazaar, the seventh in the series, which had retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, maritime practitioners, oil and gas sector players, solid minerals and extractive industry practitioners, healthcare professionals, telecommunications practitioners, bankers, educationists, administrators, developmental partners, foreign delegates and several key opinion leaders in attendance, over 10 different types of free screenings were carried out on members of the public and willing delegates at the event.
