ASABA—DELTA State Government has concluded plans to partner AFRIHEALTH, an affiliate of the United Nations, to carry out a medical study in an effort to tackle health challenges faced by rural dwellers in the state.
Speaking in Asaba during a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer and National Coordinator, AFRIHEALTH Optonet Association, Dr. Uzodinma Adirieje, the state governor, represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Tam Brisibe, expressed satisfaction with the organisation’s articulate method of gathering information on hidden health issues within its areas of operations.
He noted that the method of selection of the nine local government areas across the three senatorial districts will pave way for the attainment of the intended results.
Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Adirieje explained that the study which would take place in Oshimilli North, Aniocha North, Ika North East, Okpe, Uvwie, Sapele, Warri South, Bomadi and Isoko South, Local Government Areas, will seek to gather information and proffer solutions to health issues, especially, hidden health challenges from the grassroots.
He said that the method of the study will enable the citizens relate with the government so that government can in turn initiate programmes according to needs of the people, identify them and bring them to government’s attention.
“We understand that the government will not be everywhere and it is important for the people that stay in these communities to identify projects and needs that they have and bring them to the attention of the government, stakeholders and partners in order to find lasting solution that will become community owned, government driven, community driven, and lasting with impact,” he said.
