By Festus Ahon

ASABA —STUDENTS of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, FUPRE, Delta State,  are among the tops in this year’s Nigeria Mathematics Competition for university under graduates, held at the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja.

A student of the university, Abel Okojunu, came third out of 126 students that wrote the gold medal category examination.

With the feat, Okojunu will  be in the four-man team of university students that will represent Nigeria in Poland at the global competition coming up later in the year.

Also, Emmanuel Unak won a bronze medal in the third 10 category in student performance which cumulatively placed the University in the 11th position, moving a step higher above its 2016 performance.

Elated by the feat, Vice-Chancellor FUPRE, Prof. Akii Ibhadode, while receiving the students, commended their commitment and doggedness despite the difficulties faced in the University.

Stressing that it was the competitive spirit that made the students excel even when they study under very unfriendly conditions, he enjoined them to be determined and do their best in the next round of the competition taking place in Poland.

According to Ibhadode, the accomplishment was a clear confirmation of the academic exploit of the gold medalist, Abel Okojunu, a 400-level Mathematics student of the University, who is already on 4.93point average.
