LAFIA—Organised labour in Nasarawa State has vowed to go on with the general strike, alleging that the state government has resorted to threats and intimidations.
Speaking while addressing other union members on a solidarity visit to the Labour House in Lafia, Acting Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in the state, Mr. Alhaji Bala Umaru, vowed that the union and indeed the entire workforce in the state, will not be intimidated by government’s threat to recruit new teachers, as well as mounting pressure on the workers to return to work or be sacked.
He said: “We are not unmindful of the hardship that will follow our action, but we cannot sacrifice our tomorrow for today. Our people will have to bear and show understanding.”
Umaru, who thanked other unions for the solidarity visit, assured the workers that NLC will not disappoint them. Also speaking, Trade Union Congress, TUC, state Chairman, Danladi Namo, said his Union is in full support of the strike.
