Nigerian Young Democratic Party (YDP), advocating young people for leadership is urging and admonishing Nigerian youths to get involved in government since previous and present leadership have failed the country, allowing corruption to destroy the system, a country blessed with numerous natural resources yet poverty, unemployment, crime, hunger, economic recession have taken centre stage. This is a shame of a nation.
According to the party’s Acting Secretary, Lagos Chapter, Adejoh Emmanuel, the new dispensation of youths should be allowed to participate in leadership since there has been leadership failure in the hands of military, civilian governments and other factors including religion, ethnicity, etc. are considered at the expense of competency.
Borrowing the words of Martin Luther King that said, “human being should not be judged by their skin, religion, ethnicity but the content of their character and competence and what he/she can offer”. Emmanuel said further that appointing or electing Nigerians into leadership position should base on good character and not prejudice.
He said that leadership is considered as a major instrument to determine success of a nation, development and growth can only be achieved in Nigeria through a dedicated and visionary leadership that is ready to uphold true democratic principles such as free and fair election, provision of social welfare services to the people, social justice and security. “This is so because the quality of a leader affects development of a country; thus behind a great nation are great visionary leaders.
However, he said also that leadership is an essential instrument in the process of national building and democratic institutions. So, the Young Democratic Party has come on a rescue mission to take Nigeria and Nigerians out of the shackles of bad leadership the country is suffering since independence.
“For Nigeria to thrive and survive there is need for leaders to imbibe positive attributes such as accountability, selflessness, transparency, absolute commitment, sense of humor and submissiveness. Young Democratic Party, made up of young Nigerian minds is set to actualize this dream as we are ready to inject new and fresh leaders and ideas to our political system. Nigerians are tired of recycling of the same class of people ruling us from independence relegating the youths to the background”.
“Let’s look for young Nigerians that would use our natural resources to develop the country that is denied of industries that can create jobs for our youths instead of youths trooping out of the country for greener pasture in every part of the world. We have what many developed countries of the world do not have, our problem is bad leadership and Young Democratic Party is ready to deliver results.
