2 jailed over theft of iron cranes

Lagos—An Ogba magistrate’s court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has sentenced two men, John Bitto and Chibuzor Obilo, to one year imprisonment without option of fine.

Bitto, 26, and Obilo, 22, were sentenced to one year imprisonment by Magistrate Temitope Oladele after they had pleaded guilty to stealing three iron cranes belonging to Ikeja Electric.

The convicts, who were arraigned before the court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against them.

Earlier during the arraignment, the prosecutor, Inspector E. Ayorinde, informed the court that the convicts and others at large, conspired to commit the offence on June 13, at about 5:10a.m., at Oregun, Ikeja.

He said that they stole three iron cranes valued at N140,000, property of Ikeja Electric.

According to him, the offence committed is punishable under Sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
