BENIN—EBENDO Community Development Association, ECDA, Emu Kingdom, in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State, has refuted media reports commending the Chairman of the council for clamping down on youth activities in the area.
The association, in a statement by Mr. Ozobeme Friday, National Chairman in Benin City, Edo State, yesterday, stated that the community never mandated one Mr. J. Enegide to speak on its behalf, to commend the council chairman on the clamp down on youth activities.
It stated that the community has not assigned anybody outside its elected leaders to play the role Mr. Enegide elected to play.
The association explained that while it was true that there was internal crisis in the community which had led to the expulsion of some indigenes from the community and the then council chairman announced that the youth leadership of Ebende should stop functioning, it said that the issue was reversed before the celebration of the popular Ebende Day on February 28, this year.
It explained that what precipitated the crisis except the issue of herdsmen and farmers’ clashes, was the ousting of the leadership of the former CDC, who was accused by the community of alleged misappropriation.
The association noted that the current leadership was enthroned by the community after its conference on April 1, 2017 to bring peace , unity and stabilize the leadership crisis in area.
