The call of god is call to serve

By Pastor Layi Bamidele

At one time or the other GOD called each and every one of us from different backgrounds or circumstances in the world into His marvelous light. That is, to the body of Christ. 1 Peter 2:9-10 says “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy”.

Amongst the multitude He called, He selected some few one’s for His special plans, assignments and purposes. Mathew 22:14 says ” For many are called, but few are chosen”. Deuteronomy 7:6 says ” For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession”.

I congratulate all of us to be amongst the few chosen vessel by God for His kingdom assignment and purpose for humanity. It is not by our might, or good works or special qualities that we were chosen as workers in His vineyard. It is absolutely by His grace that we were chosen as vessels of honor in His vineyard. 2 Timothy 1:9 ( He has saved us and called us to a holy life – not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was give us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.) In this regard, I want to implore us to work according to His kingdom principles in reference to the book of Romans 12:3-8 ( For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members,and these members do not all have the same function, so in christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith, if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.)

It can be inferred from the above Bible passage that as workers in His vineyard, whatever we get ourselves involved in the body of Christs, in whatever capacity we are serving, we should do such wholeheartedly in all intent and purposes. Self or Ego should be relegated to the background. Our attitude should be ALL for God and none for us.

I want us to know that we are no more of this world, and as such we are not expected to conform to the values and standard of the world. Romans 12:2 says ” Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will”. We are light of the world. We are to lead by example. Our ways of life and attitude should glorify God and serve as a lead and encouragement to unbelievers. Ephesian 5:8 says ” For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.

In the light of the above, the following should be our guiding light to have a worthwhile walk with God and work for God to wit;

* Diligence:- We should be conscientious, fully dedicated and dutiful in our work for God. 1 Peter 2:9

* Consistency:- We should be consistent, regular and always available for services in respect of kingdom assignments. 1 Corinthian 15:58 says (Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.)

* Abstain from sinful desire:- We should abstain from inordinate worldly desires. That is lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and pride of life. 1 Peter 2:11-12 says ” Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pegans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

* Total submission to Authority:- We are expected to be respectful, submissive and obedient to ALL authority. We are to adhere strictly to instructions from superior authority within the body of Christ and outside the church. We should avoid insubordination, being disrespectful and flippant attitude. Romans 13:1-2 says ” Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and who do so will bring judgment on themselves”.

* Love All and Sundry:- Show love to all men. Love thy neighbor as thyself. Love the family of believers and unbelievers as well. 1 Corinthian 13:1-3 says ” If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have a gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and knowledge, and if i have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing”.

* Reverence/Fear God:- The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. We should reverence God at ALL times. We should ensure, we always obey and stand in awe of God. He is our all in all. Psalm 128:1 says “Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in obedience to him.

Brethren, as we comply with the above conditions, walk with God in truth and in spirit and live an obedient life, it shall be well with us and we shall have good successes and in Jesus name, Amen. The Lord who began a good work in you and I will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus, Amen.
