PORT HAR-COURT— Former council Chairmen and Commissioners, who served during the tenure of former Rivers State governor, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, have described as false, allegation by Governor Nyesom Wike that they were forced to part with money running into millions of naira monthly, for Amaechi’s wife, Mrs Judith Amaechi, while the husband was governor.
Former Chairman, Asari Toru Local Government Area of the state, Mr Ojukaye Flag-Amachree and Mr Fred Mbodo – Igwe, who was former Commissioner for Sports, in a statement, said there was no time the ex-commissioners and council Chairmen gave out money monthly to Mrs Amaechi.
“Governor Wike is economical with the truth and the allegation is, in fact, not true and should be ignored. His allegation is baseless, untrue and a figment of his imagination.
“Former Council Chairmen and Commissioners who served in the administration of Chibuike Amaechi, by this statement, therefore, warn Governor Wike against this disgraceful and disgusting mischief against Amaechi’s wife and urge him to tender an unreserved apology to the wife of the former governor immediately or be ready to face the consequences.
“Governor Wike cannot point accusing fingers at the wife of former Governor Amaechi. In fact, the then Chief of Staff to Amaechi gave stern directives to council chairmen never to support the activities of the wife of the governor.
“We want to state that no council chairman, either individually or as a group of chairmen or state commissioners were told, coerced, intimidated or persuaded to pay any money to the wife of the former governor and no money was given to her.”
The former Council Chairmen and Commissioners, meanwhile accused Wike of allegedly arm twisting them for money while he served as Chief of Staff to Governor Amaechi to fund his legal battles with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
