THE need to bridge the gap between experiences in the universities and the reality among Nigerian youths in the field was the theme for the eighth edition of The Academic Summit, TAS 8.0 tagged: The digital leverage; opportunities in contemporary media, organised by Communicators for Christ , University of Lagos, UNILAG.
The summit gathered students from various tertiary institutions had seasoned media experts such as Chuka Obi, the Creative Director of DDB, Feyi Olubodun, CEO/MD of Insight Publicis; Adekunle Ayeni, CEO of BlackHouse Media; Enitan Denloye, vice-president, Brands and Advertising, Airtel Nigeria; Tonye Bakare, Online editor of Guardian Newspaper, Bayo Omoboriowo, President Buhari’s personal photographer etc.
TAS 8.0 provided participants the platform to rub mind with media professionals on the right knowledge and skills needed to succeed in today’s changing society; opened students’ eyes to present opportunities in the digital age and how to leverage on such opportunities as well as providing a platform for subsequent career and professional mentoring.
Obi and Olubodun spoke on the need to be versatile and creative. While Omoboriowo, Feyin and Adeleye advised the students on the need to utilise social media for meaning ful development that will project the image of the country , rather than engage in social vices.
