Sapele—Several communities in Delta State have called on the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, to concession three oil wells out of 20 in their domains, acquired several decades ago by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
The communities, Ejeme-Unor, Ejeme-Aniogor, Ilogwe/Isumpe, in Ndokwa West LGA, Ute Okpu in Ika South LGA, among others from Aniocha South LGA, said they were demanding the concession of the oil wells in lieu of all compensations due to them.
In their position paper to DPR, through their consultant, Mr Kenneth Ekwejunor and their lawyer, T. A. Efaye, the communities’ royal fathers, HRM Godwin Adayere, the Obi of Ejeme-Unor Kingdom, HRM Anthony Ogboli, the Obi of Ejeme-Aniogor, the Onotu Uku of Ilogwe/Isumpe, in Ndokwa West LGA and HRM Obi of Ute Okpu of Ika North-East LGA, among others from Aniocha South LGA, said: “The acquisition of the oil blocks has deprived the communities of their farming rights and they no longer have arable land for farming.
“The 20 oil wells in Oil Block 275 presently mined by Pan Ocean Oil Company and the area of this oil block span an area of about 50 square kilometers with 56 communities, hence they are humbly applying that the three oil wells namely: Adofi 1 in Ejeme-Unor and Adofi 2 in Ilogwe-Isumpe and Erum 1 be conceded to our clients as the Federal Government has approved the construction of a modular refinery and a petrochemical industry for our clients to be built at Ejeme-Unor.”
