Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has called for the allocation of 70 per cent modular refinery licences to Niger Deltans, as the Federal Government prepares to implement the policy.
IYC President, Mr. Pereotubo Oweilaemi, said in a statement, in Abuja, that the Federal Government had already issued 57 licences and that none was given to anyone from the Niger Delta region.
He warned that the policy will be frustrated by his members, should the Federal Government exclude the people of the region from the modular refineries operations.
Oweilaemi said: “As law abiding citizens, we have always supported the Nigerian Government to achieve their cause. My people complied with the current Federal Government’s directive on the modular refineries with the hope that they will also play a major role in the policy formulation and implementation/operation of the process. But sadly, the reverse has been the case as we speak.”
